Yesterday, the Etobicoke campus LaunchPad classes had the privilege of hosting two very special guests, Anika and John, from their charity, Birthday Wonders. This charity, the only one of its kind in Toronto, ensures that children experiencing poverty and homelessness are celebrated on their birthday. They do this by working closely with local shelters to identify needs and create boxes of birthday gifts, loot bags, and birthday parties for children. Anika was brave enough to recount her personal story that inspired the creation of this charity. Students then worked in groups to wrap gifts and create loot bags for a birthday party that was set to happen that evening. They also brainstormed what makes a birthday special and how they can contribute to this cause in the future. What an eye-opening experience. Thank you so much to our presenters for a valuable lesson and opportunity.
