On November 23, 2021, Blyth Lawrence Park initiated a winter holiday food and personal hygiene drive to support the non-profit organization, Community Connect Toronto. CCT is a grassroots charity that supports organizations such as the Native Women Centre of Toronto, The Native Canadian Centre of Toronto, Red Cross, and Unity Health Network, along with many other deserving community programs. It was established in response to the increase in food insecurity as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic with the aim of providing emergency food support for those in need.
According to the recent “Who’s Hungry Report” conducted by Daily Bread Food Bank and North York Harvest, demand for food bank services surged during the pandemic as job loses and underemployment increased. It is stated that, “for the first time, new clients outnumbered existing clients at Toronto food banks” (https://eihqf368n7v.exactdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/DB-WhosHungryReport-2021-FINAL.pdf).
Donation boxes can be found in the foyer of the main Blyth LP building. We will be accepting non-perishable food and hygiene products until December 9th, 2021.
As winter begins, may the hopeful spirit of the season inspire the generous Blyth LP community to give what they can to this worthy cause. In the words of Community Connect Toronto Founder & Executive Director, Ally Lariviere, may we strive to build and maintain all that is needed to ensure our communities are fed, and that no one is left hungry.
