September 1, 2021 latest data 656 new COVID-19 cases in Ontario The 7-day average of new cases is 701. Of the total confirmed cases, 397 were unvaccinated, 52 were partially vaccinated, 152 were fully vaccinated and 55 had unknown vaccination status. In the past 24 hours, 27,572 cases were detected in provincial laboratories, with a positive rate of 2.9 percent, down from yesterday. In most regions, Toronto reported 158 new cases today, York 76, Peel 59, Tulane 31 and Herndon 29. Among the confirmed cases on these two days, people aged 20-59 accounted for the highest proportion, followed by children aged 5-11 and people aged 60-79.

The number of hospitalizations in Ontario continues to rise, with a total of 339 people now hospitalized due to COVID-19, including 163 in intensive care units and 96 on ventilators. Windsor Regional Hospital and Michael Garron Hospital in Windsor and Toronto have opened additional COVID-19 clinics for children in the wake of the increase in COVID-19 cases.

Plan for the worst and hope that reality turns out better than expected!

The Delta variant is highly contagious and the risk of infection is higher this year than last. As schools open, students are expected to be quarantined and the relative demand for testing will increase. We want to make sure hospitals have the capacity to deal with the outbreak!

Windsor Hospital's Children's Emergency Medical Assessment Clinic, located next to the emergency department, will provide COVID-19 testing, urgent care medical assessments and vaccinations for children aged 17 and under.

The Toronto hospital said it also opened a special COVID-19 clinic for children, as it did in late September last year. The clinic can conduct assessments and tests for children and their families at the same time, effectively reducing the pressure on the hospital and giving parents more peace of mind.

With only a few days left before school starts, the Peel District Health officer reminded residents to minimize contact with others, whether they are fully vaccinated or not, to avoid an increase in the number of infections once school starts.

At present, the proportion of children infected with COVID-19 in Peel is as follows:

Children aged 5-9 years: 3.1% of infections in peel Region

Children aged 10-14 years: 3.9% of infections in Peel Region

Adolescents aged 15-19 years: 5.4% of infections in peel region

Children under the age of 12 are currently unable to be vaccinated. To ensure that they can safely return to school, community contact and transmission should be avoided as much as possible, and all eligible persons should be vaccinated as soon as possible.

Finally, it is reported that Ontario will announce its updated COVID-19 vaccine certificate program today! Starting September 22, Ontario will begin a vaccination certification program that requires proof of vaccination to enter non-essential venues (gyms, indoor restaurants, bars, casinos, concerts, swimming pools, movie theaters, theaters, sports venues). Shopping at general retail stores or dining outdoors is not required. There is likely to be a "Smart Health Card", in which each person will have a unique QR code that can be displayed on their phone or printed directly.
